Indonesian police kill one, arrest several in Surabaya raids

Families behind Indonesia bombings belonged to same religious study group

China said it was opposed to any form of terrorism.

Citizens venting their anger over terrorist attacks must also demand accountability from law enforcement and security institutions, including the state intelligence body, Rachland added in his Twitter account on Sunday after suicide bomb attacks on three churches in Surabaya.

The IS statement claiming responsibility for the attacks didn't mention anything about families or children taking part and said there were only three attackers.

Moderate Muslims are, if anything, even more threatening to them than Christians, Jews or agnostic westerners could ever hope to be.

"What happened is their parents indoctrinated the children", said Arifin, "So when the mother asked them to wear the waist bombs they did it".

Indonesia, which is set to host the Asian Games in just three months, has long struggled with Islamist militancy, including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed more than 200 people - mostly foreign tourists - in the country's worst terror attack. The attack killed the four perpetrators.

Several people have died and dozens were injured in a series of explosions that rattled Surabaya and Sidoarjo in East Java on Sunday (13/05) and again on Monday.

"We are checking whether the bomb exploded incidentally or someone detonated it", the spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Police say a third family, three of whom were killed in the apartment explosion outside the city, were also JAD members.

The family blew themselves up at a checkpoint outside the Surabaya police headquarters on Monday morning, injuring at least 10 people. With her two daughters present, Kuswati hugged a parishioner before detonating her bomb, according to the Associated Press which cited a security guard. The attackers' 8-year-old daughter, who was riding on one of the two motorcycles, survived the blast.

National Police Chief Tito said that the attacks were religiously motivated and that the attackers received instruction from the headquarters of Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Police said it was as though they wanted to be easily identifiable.

Oepriarto was the head of the Surabaya extremist group.

East Java Police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera confirmed the attack on the police headquarters, the Jakarta Post reported.
