Shooting Reported at Trump Golf Club, 1 Injured

President Donald Trump

Police said Oddi took a flag from a flagpole at the rear of the golf club complex, walked into the lobby and began ranting about Trump and firing a gun.

The Doral Police Department says on its website Friday there are "no known victims at this point" and there is "no further threat".

Miami-Dade Police Department director Juan Perez said it appears Oddi was trying to lure police officers into an ambush or an attack.

That officer was taken to Baptist Hospital and is said to be in good condition.

The man fired shots into the ceiling and waited for officers to arrive, he said. Police said he fired a handgun at the roof and chandelier of the hotel. Though the precise phrases have been unclear, Perez stated it was an "anti-Trump sentiment" and the shooter "had an American flag that he did drape over-the-counter". Police did not confirm reports that the suspect was injured during his interaction with officers.

Perez said it's too early to tell what the suspect's motive was.

Eric Trump hailed the officers' response in a Twitter submit Friday morning. "Every day they keep our community safe", he added.

The Secret Service later showed up to investigate, saying they were "on the scene and working closely with our law enforcement partners".

Perez said the U.S. Secret Service was on the scene, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation was on the way, but that local police were in charge for the time being.

Trump National Doral Golf Club, an 800-acre resort outside of Miami, is home to four championship golf courses, including the Blue Monster, which plays host to a PGA Tour event each year.

No one under Secret Service protection was in the Miami area at the time of the shooting, a Secret Service representative said.
