Trump, Abe say 'imperative' to dismantle N. Korean weapons

The American president said the summit could go ahead as planned following a more appeasing statement from Pyongyang and productive talks with North Korean officials.

The US has made a decision to push back additional planned sanctions against North Korea as the countries progress on talks of a future summit between Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump.

Now, Chang says, President Trump needs to "bully" China in their trade talks to show Kim the US will not bend on its demands to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

His remarks came as South Korean President Moon Jae In said yesterday that Mr Kim was still committed to denuclearisation after their surprise meeting on Saturday.

Any attendance by Mr Moon would be dependent on the progress of pre-summit talks between the U.S. and North Korean leaders, said the Blue House. Sung Kim, the former USA ambassador to South Korea and current ambassador to the Philippines, led that American delegation, an American official told Reuters.

Mr Moon, who returned to Seoul on Thursday morning after meeting Mr Trump in Washington in an effort to keep the US-North Korea summit on track, said he delivered a message of Mr Trump's "firm resolve" to end the hostile relationship with North Korea and pursue bilateral economic cooperation.

The President later in the day said the meeting would see the two sides "make arrangements for the Summit between Kim Jong Un and myself".

The Republican firebrand pulled out of the summit with Kim last week, but announced shortly afterwards that he had reconsidered his position and that U.S. and North Korean officials would be meeting to finalise details.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tapped veteran American diplomat Sung Kim, the US ambassador to the Philippines, to handle the main pre-summit negotiations in the DMZ border village of Panmunjom.

A North Korean statement issued in response to the news saw DPRK first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Kye Gwan say his country remained prepared to hold face-to-face talks "at any time and in any way".

The Post said the meetings would continue on Monday and Tuesday at Tongilgak, the North's building in Panmunjom, where the truce suspending the 1950-53 Korean War was signed. Abe reportedly recommended the U.S.to maintain its pressure on North Korea until it reaches agreements over the nation's nuclear and missile programs.

The impersonator said Kim's rise as the third leader of North Korea in 2011 has proved lucrative for him, jump starting a new career in films, commercials and private functions, most often in his home town of Hong Kong.

Mr Trump took to Twitter on Saturday to angrily dismiss media speculation that the summit, even if reinstated, could not be held in the existing time frame.

According to reports, Trump has demanded that Pyongyang carry out a swift denuclearisation approach, while North Korea reportedly favours a gradual drawdown.

Howard X clowned: "Look, if the summit is gonna happen, I'm going to guarantee it won't just be me".

Since then, North Korea has rejected USA demands for it to unilaterally abandon its nuclear weapons program that experts say could threaten the United States.

More significantly, Moon secured the restart of minister-level inter-Korean talks on June 1, followed by a dialogue between military leaders and a Red Cross meeting to reunite families separated by the war.
