Cops: Tennessee Grandma Put Kids in Kennels in Trunk

Watch: US woman arrested after children filmed in car in pet kennels

A Memphis, Tennessee grandmother has been arrested after video surfaced (see below) of her transporting two young children in pet kennels inside her vehicle.

According to police, the children were spotted Saturday afternoon in the 3700 block of Elvis Presley Blvd. near Graceland.

Leimome Cheeks, 62, was charged with two counts of child endangerment.

Cheeks told police that she placed the children in the kennels, but she made sure to check on them periodically. A police affidavit cited by the Commercial Appeal cited a similar statement from Cheeks, who reportedly said "there was no room inside the vehicle earlier in the day".

In roasting temperatures around 35C, Cheeks drove from Whitehaven to Collierville, in Memphis, Tennessee, with the kids locked up in the back of her truck.

WATN reports the children, ages 7 and 8, told police their grandmother told them there wasn't room for them in the auto.

A woman has been arrested after a video shared online showed two children getting out of pet kennels inside the trunk of an SUV.

Strangely enough, there is little information available on the relations between Cheeks and the children, aged 7 and 8-years-old.

The citizen, who does not want to be identified, sent the video to Memphis Police.

"Join the FedEx Enterprise Awards Center in congratulating Leimome on her 35th year of FedEx Service, 2/14/2014. Press On Hand in Hand", her LinkedIn profile reads under 'Honor & Awards'.

Cheeks was being held on Sunday in the Shelby County Jail.

This is a developing story. Some report that the woman is the grandmother, while many reports exclude the information.
