Donald Trump Announces He Has "Absolute Right" To Legally Pardon Himself

Earlier this year Donald Trump condemned the probe as a'$20,000,000 Witch Hunt

Trump was active on Twitter on Monday morning, and tweeted earlier that he had the absolute authority to pardon himself if Mueller were to find him guilty of any crimes.

"In the meantime, the never-ending Witch Hunt, led by 13 very Angry and Conflicted Democrats (& others) continues into the mid-terms!" he wrote.

Rudy Giuliani, who joined the president's legal team this spring, said Sunday he believes Trump has the legal authority to pardon himself but the political ramifications "would be tough. Pardoning yourself is another", Giuliani told ABC's "This Week".

Later in the same program, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, a Republican, also dismissed the argument put forward by the Trump legal team that the president inherently can not obstruct justice.

US President Donald Trump talks to the media at the White House in Washington on Friday.

According to Trump, the appointment of the Special Counsel - meant to investigate possible links or coordination between the Russian government and the Trump campaign - is "unconstitutional".

Legal experts said Trump was claiming executive privileges that few presidents had ever claimed before.

In addition to the legal battles, Mr. Trump's team and allies have waged a public relations campaign against Mueller and the Justice Department to discredit the investigation and soften the impact of the special counsel's potential findings.

Mr Trump already has raised questions about his use of the presidential pardon power. That means that he could, for example, fire FBI Director James Comey for any reason and the dismissal could not constitute obstruction, they argue.

When asked whether Trump has the power to pardon himself, Giuliani replied, "he probably does". -Preet Bhahara, former federal prosecutor " He has no intention of pardoning himself, but that doesn't say he can't". "I think if the President decided he was going to pardon himself, I think that's nearly self-executing impeachment", he told CNN.

Tobias said there isn't much of a precedent for heads of state pardoning themselves in the USA, but likely wouldn't be covered in their vast powers.

"This is from a letter from the outside counsel, and I direct you to them to answer that question", Sanders told reporters regarding the letter at a press briefing Monday.

"Jay [Sekulow] and I want to keep an open mind, and I have to just be honest ... we're leaning toward not", Giuliani replied after host George Stephanopoulos asked if the president's lawyers were "still recommending he does not sit down for the interview".

She replied: "Why would he need to pardon himself if he's done nothing wrong?".
