G7 Members Condemn Russia For Undermining Democracies

Donald Trump calls for end to Russian expulsion from G7 grouping

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday said, "Asking Russia to rejoin the G7 is not something we are even remotely looking at". The latter now includes the United States, Canada, Japan, Britain, Italy, France and Germany.

Putin said Russian Federation will honour its part of the deal, adding Moscow is still in favour of the "unconditional implementation" of the pact.

He added Moscow will continue to honour its obligations under the Iranian nuclear deal.

Nearly immediately after US President Donald J. Trump caused a major rift in the Euro-Atlantic alliance by castigating his closest allies in the UK, Canada, and Germany by refusing to endorse a communique that called for an worldwide, rules-based trade regime, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte joined Trump in further infuriating the Western alliance by for Russia's return to the global forum.

Ahead of the annual meeting of G7 leaders, Trump said Russian Federation should be allowed back, a suggestion quickly rejected by Britain, France and Germany.

Mr Putin arrived for a three-day state visit during which he will attend the Qingdao Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on the weekend.

Mr Putin also criticised the U.S. withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal in a speech at the summit.

On Saturday, G7 participants slammed Russia's support for the Syrian regime and Moscow's attempts to undermine democracy at a meeting in Quebec City, Canada.

He said a meeting could take place as soon as the United States was ready and that many European countries had offered their help in making it happen.

During the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the assembled leaders, including Rouhani, that the United States withdrawal could "destabilise the situation" but Moscow still supports the "unconditional implementation" of the deal.

Russian Federation had earlier been suspended from the summit in 2014 when it had annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine, one of the first violations of a European country's borders to be carried out after World War II. "And in the G-7, which used to be the G-8, they threw Russia out; they should let Russia come back in, because we should have Russia at the negotiating table".

"The US unilateralism was not good for the world".

"I believe it's necessary to stop this creative babbling and shift to concrete issues related to real cooperation", Putin told reporters in the Chinese city of Qingdao, when asked to comment on a G7 joint statement.

Before the medal ceremony, Putin said the two heads of state had enjoyed "fruitful" talks.

Former Vice President Joe Biden denounced Trump's remarks, writing on Twitter, "Putin's Russian Federation invaded its neighbors, violated our sovereignty by undermining elections, and attacks dissidents overseas". Xi noted that the importance of trade between the two countries is significant beyond its sheer volume due to the strategically important goods exchanged between China and Russian Federation including energy supplies, energy extraction hardware, new environmentally friendly technology, space exploration technology, aviation equipment, terrestrial transport technology and other heavy machinery.
