President Donald Trump on Tuesday met with House Republicans to discuss two potential immigration reform bills.
But there is President Trump's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy, as announced by Attorney General Jeff Sessions back in April and implemented by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
The bill would add more federal immigration judges, authorise new temporary shelters to house migrant families, speed the processing of asylum cases and require that families that cross the border illegally to be kept together, if there is no criminal conduct or threats to the welfare of children. It is resulting in prosecution of ALL individuals who are caught illegally crossing the border, and consequently whenever a parent or adult is accompanied by a child, they are separated.
The senator further pressed the president's pick to take over the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Tuesday for clarification on her role in crafting the administration's policy of separating undocumented immigrant children from their families at the border.
They were all reacting to President Donald Trump's moves to separate members of families that cross U.S. borders illegally.
Mrs. Trump "believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart", Stephanie Grisham, a spokeswoman for Mrs. Trump, said Sunday.
In another part of the audio, a Border Patrol agent is heard joking, in Spanish, "Well, we have an orchestra here".
In a morning tweet, Trump used language evoking images of pests, not human beings, when describing migrants approaching the U.S. border.
Our government is forcibly separating children - including toddlers - from their parents and sending them to detention facilities as a means of sending a message and influencing Congress. They don't care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13.
The sparring at the highest levels came amid growing concern, dismay, and criticism across the country over the way immigration laws are being enforced by the Trump administration, with wrenching pictures of children separated from their parents and caged in warehouses.
By law, when adults are detained and criminally prosecuted, their children can not be kept with them in jail, and a 2016 court ruling shut down federally run family detention centers. "Where is the outcry for permanent separation when one of these people come to the country, commit a crime, kill an American citizen with their own hand or via the drugs they distribute, no one comes to their defense?" "Get it done, always keeping in mind that we must have strong border security", he said in a fourth.
In the seven-minute tape, children who were reportedly aged four to 10, could be heard crying out for the parents. Mr Trump blames the Democrats.
After concluding his speech at Tuesday's business event, Trump hugged the American flag and thanked attendees.
The administration has the power to rescind this policy.
"They could be murderers and thieves and so much else", Trump said.
Mr Trump has sought to use the widespread outrage over the family separations to push through other immigration priorities that have stalled in Congress, such as funding for his long-promised wall along the Mexican border.
