But Salah is now believed to be weighing up his global future.

Sadio Mane said Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah has the mental strength to bounce back from injury and World Cup heartache, revealing Saturday that he sent him a message of support.

"He has been hurt by the criticism he's received after being pictured with controversial Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who stands accused of numerous human rights violations", writes the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce.

CNN in the US reports that the 25-year-old is considering quitting the Egyptian national team, due to "unhappiness" with how the FA have used him for political purposes.

Liverpool and Egypt superstar Mo Salah may be done with his national side once this World Cup concludes.

The Chechnya leader is a controversial figure at home and overseas, having been accused of human rights abuses and the murder of homosexuals in his homeland.

"Mohamed Salah thanked us for the surprisingly warm and good reception, excellent attitude to the team, excellent living conditions and training", Mr Kadyrov posted on Russian social network site VK.

Kadyrov even announced Salah as an honorary citizen of Chechnya, holding a celebratory event for him and his Egypt team-mates.

The Egyptian FA later on Sunday tried to play down the reports, insisting Salah was still happy, saying: "Reports that Salah wants to leave are completely wrong".

"We utterly condemn the acceptance by Mo Salah of any honour from Ramzan Kadyrov's Chechnya".

After scoring 44 goals for the Reds last season, the Egyptian was a player many were very excited about seeing in action in Russian Federation but a serious shoulder injury suffered in the first half of the Champions League final caused him to miss the opening game of the World Cup.

The World Cup is all about watching the best of the best.

Salah has played 58 times for Egypt since his debut in September 2011 and has scored 34 times, putting him fourth in their all-time top scorer list.
