North Korea Shakes Up Military Leadership Ahead of Trump-Kim Summit

Some US companies say Trump's tariffs are already hurting their business

North Korea has reportedly removed its top three military chiefs in what's being seen as an attempt by the leadership to continue the thawing of relations with the outside world ahead of this month's planned summit with the United States in Singapore. North Korean state media had previously said Kim Jong Gak was replaced by Army General Kim Su Gil as the director of the army's General Political Bureau, according to Reuters.

The White House confirmed that usa sanctions will remain in place on North Korea unless the country agrees to abandon its nuclear program.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the new North Korean defence minister is No Kwang-chol, a former first vice-minister, replacing Pak Yong-sik.

Kim Jong Un's late father was such a fan of the iconic American restaurant that he reportedly had the hamburgers flown into North Korea from the nearest McDonald's restaurant in neighboring China.

Both countries have faced global isolation - North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, and Syria over its tactics during its bloody civil war.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov revealed today Kim may visit Russian Federation as part of a tour of the eastern city of Vladivostok in September.

Ri Yong Gil served as chief of staff from 2013 to 2016 until he reportedly fell from grace for a brief period, the analysts said.

All of the newly promoted officials are younger than their predecessors, even though they are all in their 60s.

Hard negotiations with North Korea come as top North Korean official Kim Yong Chol returns to Pyongyang after meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.

Those moves compelled Trump to temporarily cancel the summit, set for June 12 in Singapore, and prompted a diplomatic whirlwind as officials from both North and South Korea scrambled to get the summit back on track.

President Trump has wanted the meeting to pressure Pyongyang into giving up its nuclear weapons in return for relief from economic sanctions.

Singapore, a small but wealthy Southeast Asian city-state, has said it would bear the cost of the summit to do its part to ensure a successful meeting. "They are loyal to Kim Jong-un and no one else", he told Reuters.

"They're all young but capable people", Yang added.

"The world welcomes the remarkable events in the Korean peninsula brought about recently by the outstanding political calibre and wise leadership of.Kim Jong-un", KCNA cited Assad as saying during a meeting with North Korean Ambassador Mun Jong-nam on Wednesday.

"(Kim) is not going to want these military commissars helping themselves to any of this assistance coming to the North", Madden said.
