North Korea: Trump says summit with Kim is back on

North Korean official arrives in New York for talks with Pompeo

North Korean envoy Kim Yong Choi presents President Trump a letter from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Friday in the Oval Office.

"Since the president's May 24 letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the North Koreans have been engaging", Sanders said.

"Oh, would you like to see what was in that letter", Trump told reporters, then pointing at the crowd and asking, "How much?"

A meeting with Trump would be a huge win for Kim, and insiders say the United States and North Korea aren't close to reaching a deal that would make it worth the US's time.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, who on Friday called the summit back on for June 12, is expected to lodge at the luxury Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore. There's a very good chance that it won't be done in one meeting or two meetings or three meetings.

The delivery comes only a week after Trump threatened to consign the entire process to history, abruptly cancelling the summit in a sharply-worded letter, only to revive preparations shortly afterwards. How much? How much?

"I think we would be making a big mistake if we didn't have it", he said.

Trump says "we had hundreds of new sanctions ready to go".

Singapore's defense minister Ng Eng Hen on Saturday told reporters the small yet rich city-state in Southeast Asia is open to pitching in to cover some expenses for the summit.

He became the highest level figure from North Korea to hold talks at the White House since a senior envoy visited former US President Bill Clinton in 2000. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tweeted after Trump announced the cancellation of the meeting. Hours later, Trump said the summit was potentially back on.

The meeting followed two landmark summits between the leaders of North and South Korea in the last five weeks.

Kim Yong Chol was met by chief of staff John Kelly when he arrived at the White House on Friday afternoon, and was quickly whisked inside the building. In sentences that were printed on White House stationery, Trump, in an uncharacteristically warm and congenial tone, said he was canceling the summit because of North Korea's harsh comments about US officials.

Moving forward, the White House is planning on asking the United Nations for various payments connected to North Korea, but a list of exemptions could halt the process. But North Korea flipped on the USA in May, blasting Trump officials and saying it was reconsidering the summit. He added, "I think you're going to have a very positive result in the end".
