Trump urges Republicans to ‘stop wasting time on immigration’

Trump renews call to end filibuster amid immigration furor

While some who advocate for stricter immigration rules have argued that people are making fraudulent asylum claims or abusing the loopholes in US immigration laws, Baron said Trump's views went way beyond those arguments. But the government has yet to reunite more than 2,000 children with their parents.

It was unclear if Trump was advocating an expansion of the provision that allows expedited removals of illegal immigrants at or near the USA border, a policy his administration has embraced since he took office. These celebs showed up to challenge Trump's policy just like everyone else who was present to protest the growing crisis of family separation and its harmful short-term and long-term effects on the children caged up away from their parents.

On Friday, President Donald Trump said that a "red wave" is needed for a robust immigration bill to successfully pass in Congress, adding that Democrats "won't give votes for political reasons".

In another tweet Friday, Trump backed off calling on Congress to act on immigration, telling Republicans not to be "wasting their time" trying to pass legislation before the November midterms.

President Donald Trump has vowed to secure US' global borders and prevent people from illegally entering America, and said that he wants only those based on merit to come inside the country, amid a major immigration row.

Three days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end the administration's policy of separating children from their parents when caught illegally crossing the southern border, much is left to be sorted out.

"We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phoney stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections", he tweeted.

Trump's change of course comes as his administration struggles to reunite thousands of migrant parents and their children who have been separated at the border and dispatched to detention facilities around the country.

"We got 193 votes yesterday on a bill the leadership said wasn't even close, right?" said Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. He has falsely blamed Democrats for forcing them to enforce the policy. Trump's crackdown hasn't deterred them, at least not yet. "Without having Democrats voting, there is no way you can get this done", he said.

The columnist went on to rip Mr. Trump as a "Vesuvius of mendacities" before concluding: "In today's GOP, which is the president's plaything, he is the mainstream".

GOP Majority Whip Steve Scalise interpreted the tweet as the president "acknowledging that there is no willingness of Democrats to work with us to solve this problem".

Immigration officials have said they could seek up to 15,000 beds in family detention facilities, and the Pentagon is drawing up plans to house as many as 20,000 unaccompanied immigrant children on military bases.

Trump's "zero tolerance" policy of prosecuting adults for entering the country illegally entails a process that typically takes many months.

"What is happening in this country is disgusting", said Bilbao, who worked as a cleaning woman before becoming a legal resident and now works for an immigrant rights group.
