Warner to play Caribbean Premier League for St Lucia

David Warner maiden Caribbean Premier League CPL season signs St Lucia Stars cricket

The former Vice Captain of Australian cricket team David Warner is ready to get featured in the upcoming season of Caribbean Premier League.

The banned Australian batsman will replace his fellow cricketer D'Arcy Short.

Stars general manager Mohammad Khan said: "We are excited to bring David to the Saint Lucia Stars".

He cannot play state and worldwide cricket in Australia but can take part in domestic tournaments overseas.

St Lucia Stars will play their first game of the 2018 edition against Trinbago Knight Riders, the defending champions, on August 8.

While Warner is banned from playing worldwide cricket for a year, he will be playing a lot of competitive cricket as he joined the Winnipeg Hawks for the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada, which starts on June 28.

Bancroft was due to be playing for Somerset, but the county cancelled his contract following the Cape Town fiasco - which also resulted in Steve Smith and David Warner being given one-year bans.

Warner has played in T20 tournaments around the world, but this will be his first appearance in the CPL.

Earlier this month, the southpaw was confirmed to be a part of the Winnipeg Hawks in the soon-to-begin Global T20 Canada League.

Warner has also agreed to feature for Sydney's Randwick Petersham and in Darwin's NT Strike League as he serves his suspension.

The destructive opener, who was denied the permission to appear in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, has started his way back into competitive cricket.
