Antonio Conte sacked by Chelsea with Maurizio Sarri set to replace him

Chelsea haven't even announced Antonio Conte's departure yet, but the saga looks set to run for that bit longer.

The former Juventus coach won the Premier League title in his first season, but that initial success was soured by an off-the-field power struggle over the club's transfer policy.

Ex-Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is expected to succeed his compatriot at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea FC has confirmed sacking manager Antonio Conte.

Though each and every sign points towards the fact that Conte has indeed been sacked with the likes of Cesc Fabregas and John Terry confirming it on their social media accounts, the club are yet to make an official announcement on the sacking. Carlo Cudicini is still at the club and he is likely to help Eddie Newton take training today.

The chain-smoking former Empoli manager - who will have to restrain himself on the touchline in England where smoking is banned - was named Serie A Coach of the Year in 2016-17.

Ex-Napoli coach Sarri, meanwhile, could be presented as his replacement as early as Friday, with the Blues squad already informed over the change in management.

Chelsea sacked Conte and nearly his entire staff at the club's Cobham training ground after the Italian took a morning session yesterday, with Sarri now on the brink of taking over.

Should Sarri be appointed, he would be Chelsea's ninth full-time manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.
