On way to Lahore, Nawaz Sharif urges Pakistanis to stand by him

Nawaz Sharif’s brother Shahbaz says it is painful to see PM Modi attending G20 summit

Disgraced ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be whisked away by helicopter to the federal capital of Islamabad when he returns Friday to Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore from London to face a 10-year prison sentence on corruption charges. But kids will still be kids.

The photograph, which was tweeted by a Pakistani journalist, and retweeted by Nawaz Sharif's daughter, shows Maryam breaking down as her father Nawaz Sharif keeps his hand on Begum Kulsoom's forehead, hours before they head to the airport to return to Pakistan, where they would be arrested upon arrival.

There would be an attempt to arrest him inside the airport for two reasons, to prevent him repeat his challenging narrative and to protect him against any untoward incident.Sources said after the arrest, the NAB team would get Nawaz and his daughter medically examined.

Meanwhile, on-board flight to UAE's Abu Dhabi airport, Nawaz Sharif said: "I'll be taken straight to jail".

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday claimed he was surrendering for the future of Pakistan.

Sharif was last week sentenced in absentia to 10 years by an anti-corruption court for failing to declare how he bought Park Lane flats in London. The case pertains to the purchase of Avenfield apartments through offshore companies, the beneficial owner of which was Maryam. The both deny wrongdoing.

He was elected prime minister in 1990-93. When he returned to power in 2013, he clashed with the military over how to deal with Islamist militants and his desire for friendlier relations with arch-foe India.

"But I'm returning to Pakistan leaving my sick wife behind", he vowed.

The opposition Pakistan People Party (PPP) has also alleged "pre-poll rigging" this week, but did not specifically name the armed forces. The army will deploy 350,000 security personnel to polling stations throughout the country on election day. His brother Shehbaz became PML-N's president, but Sharif remains the power behind the throne.

PML-N has also been riven by internal divisions. Look at Sri Lanka, Singapore, China all of them worked on our blueprint and today we've lagged behind.

The kind of reception Sharif receives on the streets of Lahore will be viewed carefully in Pakistan, where political popularity is often measured by the size of rallies that politicians can attract.
