No Obstruction in Trump Tweet on Mueller Probe, Sanders Says

U.S. President Donald Trump arrives at a Make America Great Again Rally at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa Florida

According to the paper, Trump has been eager to meet with the special counsel's team - despite his own lawyers' reluctance to grant such an interview, concerned that the president could put himself in legal peril.

Mueller, a Republican and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director who served a Republican and Democratic president, has broad support in Congress, where Republicans control both chambers.

President Trump escalated his attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia Probe Wednesday.

In a series of tweets Wednesday morning, Trump said Sessions should stop the Mueller probe, which he again labelled as "Rigged Witch Hunt". "Bob Mueller is totally conflicted, and his 17 Angry Democrats that are doing his dirty work are a disgrace to the United States of America!"

"It's the president's opinion", she said.

So if Mueller finds evidence that the 2016 Trump campaign worked with a foreign power to sway the election, then conspiracy - not collusion - would be the charge.

Trump has repeatedly belittled the probe as "a hoax", as those close to him suggest he feels that any talk of Russian interference tarnishes his electoral victory and delegitimizes his presidency. He said the timing of the Manafort trial played no role in Trump's views. But Trump, flustered by the probe, is reportedly pushing his team to keep negotiating under the belief he can clear himself of wrongdoing in an interview.

Trump made the appeal on Twitter on Wednesday.

He's a Russian pop star who was involved in setting up that infamous 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between some of Donald's associates and some Russian operatives who promised to give the Trump campaign some dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Trump's tweet had raised the concern that he may try to more directly bring Mueller's probe to a premature end.

"If there are other credible reasons for doing something, you've kind of lost the beyond a reasonable doubt", Rodgers said.

The president has "always been interested in testifying", said the former New York City mayor. They also pressed Mueller's investigators to demonstrate that they can not obtain the information they are seeking without interviewing the president. That, like the prosecution of former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn for lying about phone calls with the Russians during the transition, has been something Trump has tried frantically to avoid.

Trump asked whether his former top political aide was being treated worse than Al Capone, tweeting that Manafort is "now serving solitary confinement - although convicted of nothing?" Though experts believe obstruction by tweet is possible, prosecutors have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a particular act got in the way of an investigation and that the person who did it meant to obstruct.

"We continue to see a pervasive messaging campaign from Russian Federation to try to weaken and divide the United States", said Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence.

"But I do think it would be a piece of evidence in the obstruction case going back to the firing of Comey because it shows Trump has this intense desire to shut down the Russian Federation investigation", he said.

"It would be far better if the President refrained from commenting and for Mr. Mueller to continue his investigation, which so far already has 30 indictments, including Russian nationalists", she said on Capitol Hill.
