Lakers pull out of Davis trade talks

Anthony Davis adds Bucks to list of desired teams

The latest reports of the talks between the Lakers and Pelicans on Tuesday were that Los Angeles was unwilling to continue sending trade offers to New Orleans, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. I'm going to lay out a few trade scenarios for you, while also highlighting the difficulties of making each move.

Whether Davis will play another game for the Pelicans is a question that Gentry couldn't answer. Davis' camp is obviously trying to push him to the Lakers, but there will be plenty of teams interested in acquiring him, the list be damned. They may also be willing to deal a young player, with Jayson Tatum being the name mentioned most.

The Lakers made an offer for Davis, who included the team as one of four with whom he'd be willing to sign a long-term deal.

As Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline approaches, reports and rumors continue to trickle out. They reportedly want six-to-eight draft picks for Davis.

Landed in Indy; update on Lakers-Pelicans talks. Because Irving and Davis signed similarly large rookie extensions based on their accomplishments under their first contracts, a team is not allowed to trade for a "Rose Rule" player when they already have one on their roster that was acquired via trade. The Pelicans want to be compensated - perhaps even overcompensated - for bypassing the chance to open up the process in the offseason and delivering Davis to the Lakers now.

Before the season, Doc Rivers and Lawrence Frank claimed they wanted the Clippers to become a destination franchise. Wojnarowski adds the Pelicans are looking for a historic haul of draft picks, including four first and second rounders as part of a trade package. The Lakers actually putting that offer on the table, or the Pelicans rejecting it? There is a theory bouncing around now that this list actually isn't Davis' real list, but is instead a way for Davis and his agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, to force a way to join LeBron James and the Lakers.

Deveney writes that the Blazers have shown interest in New Orleans Pelicans forward Nikola Mirotic, Orlando Magic guard Evan Fournier, Atlanta Hawks guard Jeremy Lin, and Memphis Grizzlies forward JaMychal Green.

Davis informed the Pelicans that he wouldn't sign a five-year, $239 million supermax contract this summer.
