LeBron James returns for Lakers against Clippers

Anthony Davis

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James returned to the court Thursday night against the Los Angeles Clippers after missing 17 games due to a groin injury he sustained on Christmas Day.

In a game where the Lakers led by as many as 14 points, the Clippers outscored them 37-25 in the fourth quarter to force an overtime (112-112).

"It's going to take me a little while to get my rhythm back", he told SportsNet.

James missed almost five weeks with a left groin strain.

Guard Rajon Rondo, whose 14-game absence coincided with James' injury spell, benefited from having the team's "quarterback" back as he added 14 points and 13 rebounds.

"I wish I could click my shoes together and be home right now in my bed.

But I was good enough to feel confident to just keep pushing throughout the game", he said. After over a month of struggles, the greatest player in the National Basketball Association is finally headed back to the hardwood. I want to see how my body reacts tomorrow.

Thursday will mark the end of the longest absence of his 16-year career.

"I just tried to stay as positive as possible", the three-time National Basketball Association champion said.

"I've never been injured before like that", James was quoted as saying by NBC Los Angeles after the game.

"I didn't come here to sit on the bench".

Earlier in the day, the Lakers great was listed as being iffy to "doubtful" to play this evening against the Clippers.

"That's the frustrating part, you're seeing your team struggle and you know much you can help them but you can't do anything in a suit and tie, that's where the negativity starts to creep into the mind".
