Michelle Obama makes surprise appearance at Grammy Awards

As the 61st Grammy Awards go underway, a number of music's biggest stars are up for awards. While Gaga, Smith and Lopez were able to allude to their own experiences as entertainers to highlight how powerful music can be, Obama had to put a hold on her own remarks as she was met with roaring applause immediately after uttering her first words. But, instead of being the only person singing the praises of music, she had a surprise. While each took their turn to talk about how music changed their respective life for the better, once Michelle took the mic...whoa.

The global theme Alicia Keys spoke about has been an evident theme throughout the Grammys. The cheers from the crowd were deafening.

She then spoke about the power of music: "From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the 'Who Run the World?' song that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story".

If, somehow, the Grammys leak a run of show, we'll be sure to update this post. "Please, can I bring some of my sisters out here tonight?" Göransson said. "He's been one of the most incredible artists I've ever worked with, and being a part of this phenomena, one of the most important, unique films of all time is so special". And I know that's true for everybody here.

"Do you feel that love in the building?" Considering that women, per Billboard, will have a larger presence at this year's Grammys ceremony after being "nearly muted" the prior year, Alicia is right. H.E.R.is also one of six women nominated for best new artist (out of eight total), along with Chloe x Halle, Dua Lipa, Margo Price, Bebe Rexha and Jorja Smith.

Additionally, J Balvin, Young Thug, Ricky Martin and Arturo Sandoval will join Cabello for the show's opening, while Fantasia, Yolanda Adams and Andra Day will pay homage to the late Aretha Franklin. "Celebrating so many awesome nominees, particularly women nominees ... is so incredibly magnificent and so many are my friends", said Alicia.
