Super Bowl 2019: 'Game of Thrones' Gets Surprise Ad with Bud Light

Washington Post to air Super Bowl ad showcasing reporters' plight

But corn farmers weren't amused by the implication that corn syrup is unhealthy or undesirable.

While high fructose corn syrup has been vilified by some as a common contributor diabetes and obesity, the nation's farmers and agricultural industry began responding nearly immediately, upset at the implication that corn is a product to be completely avoided.

A study published on a National Institutes of Health website says the consumption of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) increased more than 1000 percent between 1970 and 1990, far exceeding the changes in consumption of any other food group. "It's more of a processing aid and is 100% fermented out".

Bud Light pulled out all the stops to show that the company does not use corn syrup in this year's Super Bowl commercials, but some corn farmers were not pleased with the message. It also angered the corn industry, which gave the brewer an earful over its implied criticism.

One Iowa corn grower, farmer Kevin Ross, posted a video of himself on Twitter pouring a can of Bud Light down a sink. "We're also proud that none of our products include any high fructose corn syrup while a number of Anheuser-Busch products do". So they go on a quest to deliver the barrel to the castles where Miller Lite and Coors Light are made.

But either way, after the brewing process is done, most of that sugar is gone. They doth protest that Bud Light doesn't contain corn syrup. The spokesperson did not return a request for comment on how Bud Light's use of rice to differs from including corn.

And Peter Marino, chief communications officer for MillerCoors, said the ad was like the pot calling the kettle black.

While MillerCoors took to Twitter last night to point out that none of its products contain HFCS, it claimed "a number" of Anheuser Busch products do.

"Anheuser-Busch fully supports corn growers and will continue to invest in the corn industry", said a spokesman. The statement says it's up to consumers "to decide what beer is right for them". "There's lots of different places to get the sugar from".
