Israel slips in UN World Happiness Index

Dutch move up to fifth in UN's World Happiness Report

A United Nations report released on Wednesday, March 20 as part of the International Day of Happiness revealed Mauritius is the happiest place in Africa. Algeria which is on power transition closes the bracket of the list of top three happy countries in Africa though at position 88 globally. Singapore ranked first among the rest in terms of an absence of corruption and healthy life expectancy and third for GDP per capita.

Finland topped the ranking of the world's happiest countries for the second year in a row. "It's the way life is lived in those countries".

A special chapter in the World Happiness Report 2019, produced by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a United Nations initiative, explored the relation between the two. That's partly explained by "dramatic falls" in happiness in population dense countries like the United States, Egypt and India, it said.

The United States fell one place from previous year, ranking as only the 19th-happiest nation in the world despite being the wealthiest nation in the world.

In order, the countries that ranked top 10 are: Finland, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, New Zealand, Canada and Austria. The conflict is also responsible for the deaths of an estimated 400,000 people. "Addictions come in many forms, from substance abuse to gambling to digital media".

No other super powers made it into the top 10 rankings, either. Ranked right above Vietnam at 93rd place is China.

The the 19th happiest nation out of the 156 countries surveyed. There has also been an increase of negative emotions, which were also measured and include worry, sadness and anger.

Japan is not such a happy place these days.

Despite winters without much sunlight, Scandinavian residents are the happiest in the world, according to this report.

Overall, happiness in the United States actually decreased almost a half-rung over the last decade.

Many comments focused on the validity of the report and tagged it as fake news while others are noting on the coming time of the year where jokes are tantamount to tradition.

This report is the seventh to come out since 2012.

The ranking saw the US drop one place, to 19th, while people in South Sudan were the least happy.
