State Sen. continues push to have Daylight Saving Time permanent

Daylight Saving Time adjustments could lead to health risks, studies say

Light exposure is supposed to help regulate our internal clocks and sleep-wake cycle.

The clock will jump forward an hour for most Americans on Sunday, March 11 - at 2 a.m.to be exact.

Interestingly, the risk for a heart attack decreases by 21 percent in the fall, when we return to standard time and gain an hour of sleep. Do we still need to do it?

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., last week reintroduced a bill to make Daylight Saving Time a year-round reality across the country, with no more biannual time changes. Oregon's switch to year-round daylight saving time in 2021 would be contingent on approval from voters statewide at next November's general election. The Founding Father is often considered the creator because of a satirical essay he wrote in a French journal in 1784. "I know they have a lot of more important headaches", Chu told The Washington Post.

A 2014 Rasmussen poll found that a declining percentage of adults in the United States - 33% - think daylight saving time is "worth the hassle".

We used it again from 1942-45 during World War II.

"BC Hydro is about to embark on a study that we're hoping to release this fall to ask that question - does Daylight Saving Time actually save energy in B.C.?" spokesperson Geoff Hastings said.

But it's not, according to Prerau, whose 2009 book "Seize the Daylight" traces the history of the time shift.

Proponents have argued daylight saving time saves energy.

The interruption can kill people: Incidents of heart attacks, strokes, and fatal auto accidents all spike around the start of daylight-saving time each year.

The lawmakers say sleep habits also become impaired.

Whose idea was daylight time, anyway? The agency also says it prevents traffic injuries - an argument opponents disagree with. That's why several New England states are talking about moving one hour ahead to Atlantic Standard Time - the equivalent of Eastern Daylight Time. People also report feeling disoriented and unproductive. Energy savings are negligible or non-existent.

The law applied to all 50 states, but they weren't required to comply and, in time, Hawaii and Arizona opted out.

But the state legislature must first pass a bill which would officially end the time change in California, and that bill must pass by a two-thirds margin. That doesn't mean another won't be introduced later.

Not everyone wants to get rid of the practice.

Your regular sleep pattern can be affected for five to seven days after changing the clock.
