So today I had this sweet craving after lunch and since I’m a nerd at tracking my calories I managed to squeeze this treat in my daily macro’s. It’s not a low calorie snack, but sometimes you just need something good.

I found the recipe for the cake on the blog and cut it in half for this version and reduced the sugar as well since the apple adds sweetness as well.

Yes, I realise mine wasn’t made in a mug, but I didn’t have a mug big enough for this baby.

Edit 2-3-’15: I added a version with chocolate pieces. Didn’t want to make an extra post for  this 🙂

What do you need for the basic cake..cakeinamug1

  • 2,5 tablespoons of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cocoa
  • dash of baking soda + salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
  • 2,5 tablespoon water
  • Vanilla extract

Put all the dry ingredients in a mug and add the wet ingredients. Mix until you have a nice and smooth batter. Add your apples and place in the microwave for 1 tot 1:30 minute, depending on your microwave and personal preference. I like my cake a bit soft so I want for about a minute (900w. microwave).


Chocolate-chip cake

  • basiccake-mix (minus the chocolate if you only want chips)
  • 25 gr. chocolate, chips or just a piece of chocolate cut into bit

Mix your cake ingredients and add the chocolate. Microwave for about 1,5 minute depending on your microwave and personal taste

Apple cake 

  • basiccake-mix (minus the chocolate if you only want chips)
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cookie spices
  • 1/2 teaspoon of water

Slice your apple into small pieces and add the spices and water. Place in a bowl and cover with clean film or use a freezer-bag you can microwave. Microwave fora bout 1,5 minute depending on your microwave, your apples need to be soft.
