Quinoa, I don’t get why everyone is so crazy about it. It smells funny, kinda dusty? I got a bag from a friend and I’ve tried it as a side with my Aubergine stew but I just didn’t like it. But when I was looking in my oatmeal-cookbook for a new breakfast I saw this one and decided to give quinoa another chance.. I mean, with some oatmeal, banana and milk some of the taste should be masked right?

When I tried this I was actually really surprised about the taste! In a positive way! The quinoa didn’t taste ‘dusty’ anymore and actually gave the oatmeal an extra bite! To bad it takes a while (15 minutes) to make, because this actually filled me for over 4 hours! Okey, I was at home, so I don’t know how full I would feel if I was to eat this on a workday. Play around with the quinoa/oatmeal-ratio, because I think I would reduce the quinoa a bit the next time. But I think I’ve found a new weekend-oatmeal (or when I work late shifts).


What do you need? (2 servings)quinoaoatmeal1

  • 500 ml of milk (I use soy)
  • 50 gr. of oatmeal
  • 50 gr. of quinoa
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla-extract
  • 1 banana cut into slices
  • sweetener of any kind to taste

Put the milk on medium heat together with the oats, quinoa and cinnamon and bring it to a boil, turn the heat down and let it simmer for about 10 minutes on a low heat. Add sweetener if you want. I always choose to do so at the end, because I can taste it first and then add if needed.


Divide the porridge between two bowls and garnish with the banana. If you want, you can add a little honey for extra sweetness.
