Wait.. beef? But.. isn’t that? YES, it’s meat! Every now and then my house gets invaded by 3 viking man (well, my brother and two of our friends). And they are REAL men!! With beards! And long hair! Well two of them…

And REAL MEN eat meat!! And drink these disgusting Monster energy drinks…

So, it’s time to pull out the slowcooker again and serve my viking men their meat!


Yes, I know people might criticise me about the fact that I sometimes cook meat, because “you’re a vegetarian/vegan”. But I feel I can’t force my choices on the people around them. My mom buys me meat replacements when I stay for dinner and often she’ll tell me what we’ll have so I can also bring something else or she’ll come up with something herself. But as long as I don’t have to eat it I’ll cook the meat for my boys. And still, having 3 happy men at my table is what makes it worth it 😀 And of course, my brother will ‘sacrifice’ himself a bit for the necessary tasting 😛

A while ago I made them Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork, which I served with some baked potatoes and pita’s. This time I wanted to do something different, because I have to make something for myself as well and I don’t want to juggle to much stuff in my tiny kitchen. This feeds 3 large men, but ‘normally’ this would feed about 4-5 I guess.

What do you need 

  • 1 kilo of flank steak, sliced
  • 40 ml of rice oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ginger
  • 180 ml of soy sauce
  • 180 ml cup of water
  • 120 ml of honey
  • Red/Green/Yellow paprika
  • 3 large yellow onions
  • Rice
  • Scallions

I started prepping this meal in the morning because I had a load of other stuff to do, like cleaning and making sure my boys have a dessert as well. So I started out with the sauce and veggies. Mix the oil, ginger, soy sauce, water and honey together and mix well Cut the veggies into large chunks and place in a bowl until you’re ready to start the cooking proces.


Mix all the other ingredients together and pour the sauce in the slowcooker. Cut the veggies (except for the scallions) into large chunks and coat the steak in the flour. Place the veggies, sauce and meat in the slowcooker and cook for at least 4 hours!!


I took meat that starts tasting better the longer you cook it. I cooked mine for about 6 hours on low heat. If you feel the sauce is to thin you can add a few tablespoon of starch to thicken it a bit.


Sorry about that crappy pics, but I was using my phone for pics because the battery of my normal camera died and needed charging. I cooked the rice and added the chopped scallions. Pictures don’t do the meat justice and I think they liked it. It smelled amazing!
