As I’m nearing the end of my second year as a blogger I thought this would be a great topic to write about. Although I have already achieved something for myself, starting something and actually keeping it up for as long as I already have, there are still things I never spoke or wrote about before.
When I started this blog I wanted to create something where I could post the stuff I’d cook. At the time I needed something to set my mind to and that would actually challenge me a bit since my work wasn’t giving me this. I thought coming up with new recipes would both add more new stuff to my diet and it would have given me something to do. When I look back at these two years I believe I have reached this goal. Because I want to post new(ish) stuff at least 3 times a week I have to come up with new stuff and look for new stuff to try, that can either be a recipe or a type of food. Over the last few months I have tried stuff I never thought I would eat like kale, beets or sprouts. Also, because of this blog I don’t think I have eaten the exact same dish twice in the last six months.
Sometimes that’s not a good thing because I really love the stuff I cooked in the past. So I might try some variations on old stuff as well.
I never started this blog to actually make money from this or to get a load of readers. This blog is mainly a personal project which just happens to be online for other people to see.
Of course, blogging is also something that takes a lot of time. When I started my second job I realised I wasn’t going to be able to keep posting 3 new recipes every week. Mostly because this job was a lot more challenging and also the longer commute. Although I started to post stuff about other subjects in the months before, after starting that job I needed more of these kinds of post because, although they take longer to write, it’s easier to write them because I don’t have to cook for them. And over the last few months, with the Mr. in my life and my new job it’s getting harder and harder to free up time to write. Also one of the reasons I started this project, because I can write a few of these up front and just have them ready to post on a Sunday. Sometimes I just need to really sit down and write a few posts because I would have cooked to meals and took pictures, but just didn’t take the time to actually write them. That’s why I choose to reduce the amount of ‘in progress’ pictures a few months ago, reducing the actual writing time a lot.
Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up blogging, since I still like doing it. But I’m going to be realistic. Getting to finish a 3rd year might be a unreachable goal…
